Our Maldives resort offers a new year’s detox with a difference

The Nautilus Maldives at sunset

Maldives resorts offer travellers the world’s best in luxury island escapes, and it’s no wonder that the destination is so popular with honeymooners, families, adventurers and groups celebrating a special milestone. But did you know that this Indian Ocean idyll also makes for the perfect spot to detox and rejuvenate? In fact, there are few locations in the world that offer such an ultra-luxe, holistic opportunity to restore your health – both physically and mentally.

There’s no better time for a detox than at the beginning of a new year: after bidding farewell to the old, with all the fun and fanfare the occasion deserves, it’s time for fresh starts of the best kind, alive with possibility and new energy. At The Nautilus, we have all that you need to reflect and restore in sublime style, gaining serenity and perspective for the year ahead. Below we’ve outlined just some aspects of what you can look forward to when visiting in January 2023.

Gourmet dining at The Nautilus Maldives

1. Healthy, restorative cuisine

At The Nautilus, we love all things gastronomy and delight in serving up our foodie guests the finest dining. What’s more, we love cooking up spectacular celebrations, so it’s no surprise that the festive season on our island is one of feasting; of eating, drinking and merrymaking – and the occasional overindulgence.

But we also believe in the power of food to restore and sustain both body and brain, to flush out toxins, rejuvenate weary muscles and awaken anticipation for the new. And our specially prepared healthy dishes are by no means tasteless! Prepared by our masterful chefs, these nutritious meals are packed with fresh local produce, whole grains and lean proteins – and, of course, sensational flavour – to optimise your wellbeing.

2. Digital detox

Toxins in the mind are just as problematic as toxins in the body, and in fact, more and more studies show that mind and body are inextricably intertwined. One of the biggest culprits when it comes to mental stressors is digital overwhelm – the constant, switched-on state of 24/7 connection to devices, social media and news sites. While technology has undoubtedly made life easier, it has also made it faster, noisier and more disruptive.

This is why, at The Nautilus, we encourage digital detoxing, by switching off from the distractions and demands of the screen in favour of reconnecting with yourself, your loved ones and the wonders of creation. As you lock away your digital devices and opt for island twittering over TV, you’ll discover pure, unplugged respite.

3. Self-care at the spa

Our overwater spa is about more than pampering (though, of course, it is that too!). Our treatments and holistic spa journeys, conducted by expert therapists using premium spa products, boast wonderful healing and restorative capacities, helping to cleanse the body and care for your mind.

Guests can expect reviving sugar scrubs and aromatherapeutic, deep-tissue massages with Maison Cauliéres’s detoxing Vitamin D Oil, to relieve tired muscles and enhance circulation. Also on offer are warm Arnica baths, and movement and mindfulness sessions. And for local flavour, how about a warm Maldivian herbal sand poultice? Applied to your back, it feeds and soothes the skin, while stimulating metabolism and lowering body temperature.

4. Natural therapy

On our dreamy shores, surrender to the healing powers of nature is inevitable. Immersed in the miraculous beauty of the landscape – in our case, a world that happens to be a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – you’ll find reinvigoration courtesy of the tropical sunshine, fresh sea air and balmy sea water, not to mention the awe-inspiring attractions of white sands, blue ocean and rainbow-coloured underwater treasures.

Simply basking in this seascape is enough to soothe the soul. But, as exercise is one of life’s best medicines, we’ve curated some special outdoor activities: snorkelling with manta rays, diving among countless species of shimmering coral and fish, or even big game fishing with the locals; these are just some of the adventurous ways you can renew physical and mental wellbeing.

5. Uncrowded alone-time

With just 26 houses and residences available on The Nautilus, each spacious house or residence offers maximum privacy and exclusivity, by design. And beyond your beautiful abode, you are welcome to enjoy every dining occasion, spa treatment or marine adventure as a private experience. This means that crowds, hurry and noise are a distant reality, while you are free to enjoy exquisite seclusion with the people who matter most – with ample opportunities for quality time and for reflection on your life and your relationships, on what came before, and on your hopes for the future.
